KLOOK Travel has completed near US$60 million in Series C funding in a round of investment representing the largest deal ever for an in-destination service booking platform.

It is a co-investment led by Goldman Sachs and existing investors Sequoia Capital and Matrix Partners. Sequoia and Matrix led previous funding rounds, backing some of the world’s most iconic brands such as Apple, Airbnb, WhatsApp, Paypal and others.

Soong Chuan Sheng, General Manager for Southeast Asia, Klook said: “With our foray into Singapore and the wider Southeast Asian region in the past year, it is clear that Singaporeans are both seasoned and sophisticated travellers.

“This comes through very distinctly in their choice of travel activities – from finding ways to maximise complex products such as the Japan Rail pass, to exploring unique custom itineraries on the outskirts of Bangkok such as Khao Yai and Hua Hin.

“With this round of funding and backing, we hope to strengthen the breadth of our activities to continue matching and delivering on Singaporeans’ appetite for travel experiences not just within Asia but also in Europe and the US.

Klook is Asia’s largest in-destination travel services booking platform targeted at Free and Independent Travellers (FITs). With more than 30,000 travel activities in over 120 destinations, Klook provides seamless and affordable experiences for modern-day travellers to truly be in control and customise their own itineraries.

With this round of financing, Klook will further the company’s global expansion and explore the potential of utilising AI technology to reshape and improve the travel experience in researching and booking trips. One of the pioneers in Asia’s travel activity booking space, Klook has seen rapid growth in the span of three short years.”
