SG Ubisoft: 70 job layoffs in Singapore, Finland studio to close; eligible jobseekers may get up to S$6K support
Ubisoft job cuts in Singapore and Finland
Summary
Ubisoft plans to cut 70 jobs in Singapore and shut its RedLynx studio in Finland as part of efforts to restore profits.
The Creative Media and Publishing Union is contacting affected members and offering career advice and job-matching help through the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC)’s employment support network.
Eligible jobseekers taking part in e2i job-search activities may qualify for up to S$6,000 in temporary support over six months.
PARIS/SINGAPORE: Ubisoft is cutting 70 jobs in Singapore and proposing to close its RedLynx studio in Finland as the French video game maker seeks to return to profit.
The company announced the planned changes on Oct 14. Ubisoft is known for action-adventure franchises such as Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Watch Dogs. Despite the job cuts, Ubisoft said its Singapore studio would continue to play an important part in its global operations. The company didn’t announce that the local studio would close.
The layoffs followed Ubisoft's May report of a net loss of €1.5 billion (S$2.16 billion) for its 2025–26 financial year. It plans to save at least €200 million (S$287.6 million) over two years, on top of €300 million (S$431.4 million) in savings targeted in recent years, Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reported (Oct 15).
SG union offers job search and career support
The Creative Media and Publishing Union (CMPU), an affiliate of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), said on Oct 15 that it was reaching out to affected members.
Ubisoft isn't a unionised company, but some of its employees belong to CMPU. The union didn’t disclose how many members would lose their jobs.
Support includes career guidance and job-matching services through NTUC’s employment support network. This includes NTUC Employment and Employability Institute (e2i), which helps jobseekers find work and explore skills training.
Eligible jobseekers who take part in e2i job-search activities may also qualify for the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support scheme. It provides temporary financial support of up to S$6,000 over six months, subject to eligibility requirements.
Affected union members and employees can contact CMPU by email or call its hotline at 6213 8510.
RedLynx faces closure after earlier job cuts
Ubisoft had already announced dozens of job cuts at RedLynx last year as it sought to focus the Finnish studio on mobile games. The studio employed more than 150 people in 2021.
The proposed closure comes as the company tries to lower costs despite having successful games in its portfolio. Its recent work included Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, released in July, which has sold more than 3.5 million copies.
The figures show the pressure facing a major game maker as it tries to balance its spending with the cost of developing and selling games.

Fair retrenchment support for affected workers
CMPU urged employers to provide fair retrenchment benefits and suitable help when job losses cannot be avoided. It said companies should follow Singapore’s Tripartite Advisory on Managing Excess Manpower and Responsible Retrenchment.
The union also stressed the need to treat workers with dignity, given the effects job losses can have on employees and their families.
For those affected, the next steps may include finding new work, seeking career advice or upgrading their skills. Employers should communicate about retrenchment terms and available support, while workers can approach CMPU or e2i for help.
A job loss can disrupt a household’s finances and plans. Timely information, fair benefits and practical help can give affected workers a better chance of moving into their next role.
